Israel, My treasured possession

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Matthew 13:44 KJV

What is the treasure and who is the man and where is the field?

We know from scripture that Israel is God’s treasured possession. What if God is the man in this parable? Let’s look at some scriptures.

Deuteronomy 7:6 (ESV)

“For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 14:2

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.

Deuteronomy 26:18

18 And the Lord has declared today that you are a people for his treasured possession, as he has promised you, and that you are to keep all his commandments,

Is God the man in the parable with the buried treasure?

I believe that God is indeed the man in this parable and that the treasure that He hid in a field is the Ten Tribes of Israel hidden in the world. We sometimes say that they are the Lost Ten Tribes… but they are not lost to God.

Therefore the field is the world. Why doesn’t God already own the world in this parable?

The reason is that He gave Adam and Eve dominion over the world and Satan usurped that dominion.

How was God to get the world back? What could He sell that represented everything He had to buy the field – this world?

I put it to you that it was His only begotten Son that was everything that He had, that could purchase the world and put the treasure back into God’s hands legally. By buying back the deed of land title, God can give back to Adam’s descendants and specifically Israel the title deeds of the earth.

Why?

So that the restoration of all things can take place!

This is indeed the Kingdom of Heaven!
